Having a fabulous piece on your wardrobe like this ostrich feather trimmed blazer by Elizabeth and James can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it can turn any hum-drum outfit into a bold statement. On the other, it’s so dang flashy that it’s hard to style for a typical Wednesday night on the town. The blazer is a pièce de résistance that is too special to label “for special events only”. So excuse me while I flounce my feathers out to dinner at my favorite local Mexican restaurant.

When wearing a statement piece as bold as a feather trimmed blazer, it’s best to go basic for your first layer. This faux wrap romper was my first ever romper. #throwback. I picked it up at Wet Seal, spending as little as possible on the style since I had no idea if it would flatter my body type or if I would like it. Spoiler: I fell in love. The romper is definitely an elevated style so it wasn’t difficult to envision the Elizabeth and James blazer over it. Although this romper is a few years old, white rompers can be found everywhere. My favorite is this one from Shoptiques.
I welcomed this Elizabeth and James masterpiece of a blazer into my wardrobe earlier this year to wear to NYFW. See how I styled it for the trip here. It has since been imitated by many other fashion houses and brands, such as Tahari and Kate Spade. I do have good news if you’re a US size 12! You can purchase this Eliz and James blazer here for under $150. Score! If you’re looking for a more inexpensive alternative, this dupe is only $60!
I won’t spend too much time talking about the accessories. To kick the outfit up another notch, I decided to match my shoes and handbag. Is if a little extra? Yes. Did it make the outfit even more of a stataemnt? Hell yes. I’ve found that it’s always worth it to go the extra step to make an outfit pop.
I love that blazer! Such a fun pop of color and texture to your outfit.
